ABOUT (EN)
Guitarist, composer and performer of electronic music. In his professional artistic and didactic activities, he mainly deals with research and experimentation in the field of composition and improvisation in electronic music. Active as a guitarist and live electronics musician in groups and solo projects. He collaborates as a composer of music for exhibition spaces, theatre, cinema, dance and for sound and audiovisual installations. He teaches math and physisc at high school and electromnic music at the academy of fine arts. Interested in the relationship between art and science, he researches in the field of data sonification. He promotes and participates as a speaker in cultural activities aimed at the dissemination of sound arts.
His works have been presented and performed at Bushwick Open Studio Festival (New York, USA), Cantiere Internazionale d'Arte (Montepulciano, Italy), Fondazione Teatro Grande (Brescia, Italy), HCI Human Computer Interaction International, SMC Sound and Music Computing Conference, Festival della Scienza (Genova, Italy), Bergamo Scienza (Bergamo, Italy) and more.

Nelle sue attività professionali, artistiche e didattiche, si occupa principalmente di ricerca e sperimentazione nell'ambito della composizione e dell'improvvisazione nella musica elettronica. Attivo come chitarrista e musicista live electronics in varie formazioni e in progetti in solo. Collabora come compositore di musiche per spazi espositivi, il teatro, il cinema, la danza e per installazioni sonore e audiovisive. Interessato alla relazione tra arte e scienza ricerca nell’ambito della sonificazione di dati. E’ docente di matematica e fisica nella scuola secondaria di secondo grado e docente di musica elettronica in accademia di belle arti. Promuove e partecipa come relatore ad attività culturali volte alla diffusione delle arti sonore.

Vaalbara is a live extemporaneous composition for electric guitar and laptop. The title refers to the name of the first supercontinent of the Earth emerged from the ocean surface. Sound masses, composed of microsounds, textures and patterns generated by processing and controlling the instrument signal in real time, progressively emerge from silence and rare events.

Brescia: May, 28th 1974. Piazza della Loggia bombing. During a trade union anti-fascist protest, the explosion of a neofascist bomb killed eight people and wounded one hundred protesters. We still have an audio recording of the event captured from the stage of the rally that provokes the utmost sympathy to the social ordeal. This work aims to the memory protection of an historical event of my city, but there is more. The compositions tells us about the distances, the coexistence, the hurdles of balancing the historical dimension of space and collectivity with the private element of everyday life. The idea is to inspect the tragic feature of the human existence in the World. The composition has been created with the following: - sound synthesis; - reinterpretation of samples from Luc Ferrari's archive; - audio recording fo Piazza della Loggia bombing (copyleft Associazione Casa della Memoria); - W.H.D. Rouse's Sounds of Ancient Greek, Linguaphone Institute, 1932 (public domain); - original field recordings: moments of my household while composing; night in Piazza della Loggia, water of Piazza della Loggia fountain, where the bomb was placed and hidden.

“In string theory, each particle is identified as a particular vibrational mode of an elementary microscopic string. A musical analogy is very apt. Just as a violin string can vibrate in different modes and each mode corresponds to a different sound, the modes of vibrations of a fundamental string can be recognized as the different particles we know.”

Pythagoras with monochord discovered the relation between the length of strings and their perceived pitch when plucked and attempted to explain the cosmos with this mathematical-musical model in his Harmony of the Spheres. Today in string theory a one-dimensional string with particular mode of vibration corresponds to an elementary particle like a sound. The strings can interact by splitting and joining. It seems that everything in the universe is made out of oscillating strings. A sort of twenty-first century Harmony of the Spheres comes to mind. Musical metaphors seem to me to offer the opportunity to provide the imagination to those processes in multidimensional space-time with the creation of various and complex interacting sonic spectra that originate only from concrète sounds of the open E sixth string of the electric guitar. The harmonic field of the composition comes from the overtone series of this string and its subharmonic and inharmonic modulations. All partials, their sonic aggregates and gestures are obtained form digital processing of the original E pitch sounds with custom softwares.
Mobilis In Mobili
For electric guitar and laptop [2018]
The work, a live performance for electric guitar and laptop, is an acoustic force field made-up of microsounds, texture and pattern generated from real time digital signal processing of the electric guitar. Small audio buffers are constantly recorded and processed by a SuperCollider program developed by the composer. The form is the result of a continuous process of composition and improvisation modulated by the feedback of the sonic material generated by the computer (magical machine). Mobilis In Mobili (trans. moving within the moving element) takes its title from the Captain Nemo’s motto in Jules Verne novel Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea (1870). As the Nautilus, our aural perception can fluctuates in sonic spaces and interacts with the acoustic force field.

Some years before Copernicus consented to the publication of his large work “De Revolutionibus Orbium Caelestium”, he wrote a brief sketch (Commentariolus) of his astronomical system. The “Commentariolus” was not printed; a number of handwritten copies circulated for a time among students of the science, and the disappeared from view for three centuries.
(1). There is no one center of all the celestial orbs or spheres.
(2). The center of the earth is the center, not of the universe, but only of gravity and of the lunar sphere.
(3). All the spheres encircle the sun, which is as it were in the middle of them all, so that the center of the universe is near the sun.
